I'm Amiti Grozdon, a licensed therapist (M.Ed., LPC) practicing virtually across Texas. I specialize in couples therapy, ADHD, anxiety, and neurodiverse relationships. If you and your partner are stuck in the same patterns — disconnected, frustrated, or just not as close as you used to be — that's exactly what I work on. Sessions are fully virtual, private pay, no waitlist.

The Texas Hill Country does something that the rest of Texas doesn't. The landscape changes — live oaks, limestone hills, clear rivers, wildflowers in spring. The pace slows. And for couples, that combination of beauty and quiet creates conditions for the kind of presence that daily life makes difficult.

These are the towns that reward the drive, and what makes each one worth your time as a couple.

"The Hill Country doesn't fix anything between you. But it creates enough quiet that you can actually hear each other again."

01 Fredericksburg
WineFoodWeekend

Fredericksburg is the Hill Country's most complete destination — a historic German town with a walkable main street, excellent restaurants, and a wine trail that has grown into one of the best in Texas. It rewards slowing down. You can spend two days here without running out of things worth doing: wine tasting in the morning, a long lunch, an afternoon at Enchanted Rock, dinner at one of the Main Street restaurants.

~1.5 hrs from Austin ~4 hrs from Dallas Full weekend
Make it count

Pick one winery and stay for a few hours rather than rushing through five. A slow afternoon in one place builds more closeness than a full itinerary.

02 Wimberley
SwimmingArtOutdoors

Wimberley is quieter than Fredericksburg, smaller, and in some ways more genuinely charming. The Blanco River runs through it, Blue Hole Regional Park offers spring-fed swimming in a gorgeous cypress-lined swimming hole, and the town square has galleries and good food without being overcrowded. A strong choice for couples who want nature over nightlife.

~45 min from Austin Day trip or overnight Best spring–fall
Make it count

Blue Hole early in the morning before it fills up. The water is cold and clear and the cypress trees overhead create something that's genuinely hard to find in Texas.

03 Johnson City
WineWildflowersLow-Key

Johnson City sits on the edge of the Pedernales River corridor, surrounded by some of the best wildflower country in Texas in spring — the bluebonnets and Indian paintbrush here are extraordinary in March and April. It's smaller and less polished than Fredericksburg, which is part of its appeal. Pedernales Falls State Park is twenty minutes away and worth the detour.

~50 min from Austin Day trip or overnight Best March–April
Make it count

Drive the back roads between Johnson City and Fredericksburg in wildflower season. Some of the best bluebonnet scenery in Texas is on those roads, with almost no one else around.

04 Marble Falls
LakeFood

Marble Falls sits on Lake LBJ and has the feel of a Hill Country lake town without the crowds of some larger destinations. Good for a weekend of water, food, and genuine relaxation. The drive into town through the lake country is beautiful. The Bluebonnet Cafe for breakfast is a Hill Country institution worth experiencing.

~1 hr from Austin Weekend Year-round
Make it count

Rent a kayak or paddleboard on Lake LBJ for the morning, then eat somewhere good. Physical activity followed by a good meal is one of the most reliable formulas for a good day together.

05 Boerne
HistoricClose to SA

Boerne (pronounced "Bernie") is the easiest Hill Country town to access from San Antonio — about 30 minutes north on I-10. A genuine German-heritage town with a limestone main street, good restaurants, the Cibolo Nature Center for walks, and Cascade Caverns nearby for something different. A strong day trip that can be extended into a weekend.

~30 min from San Antonio Day trip or overnight Year-round
Make it count

Walk the Cibolo Nature Center trail together before lunch. It's free, quiet, and the creek section is genuinely lovely.

06 Kerrville
RiverQuiet

Kerrville sits on the Guadalupe River in the heart of the Hill Country and has a slower, less tourist-oriented feel than Fredericksburg. The riverfront is beautiful, Kerrville State Park gives you good hiking, and the town has genuine character without being a destination. A good choice for couples who want to actually rest rather than see and do.

~1.5 hrs from San Antonio Overnight minimum Year-round
Make it count

Sit by the Guadalupe River and do nothing for a while. The instinct to fill every hour is worth resisting here.

07 Comfort
Hidden GemAntiques

Comfort is genuinely underrated — a small town between Boerne and Kerrville with an unusually well-preserved 19th-century downtown, serious antique shops, and a quiet that most Hill Country towns have given up trying to maintain. If you want the Hill Country without the crowds, Comfort is the answer. Stay a night, walk the main street, eat somewhere small, and take your time.

~45 min from San Antonio Overnight minimum Year-round
Make it count

Walk every block of the historic district. It takes about 20 minutes and it's the whole point of coming here.

When a Beautiful Trip Isn't Enough

The Hill Country creates conditions for connection. It slows you down, removes you from your routine, and reminds you why you chose each other. What it can't do is change the underlying patterns between you.

I work with couples virtually across Texas — EFT-informed, neurodiverse-affirming, specializing in the kind of stuck that doesn't resolve on its own. No commute, no waitlist, private pay.

Common Questions

What are the best Hill Country towns for couples in Texas?+
Fredericksburg is the most complete destination — wine, food, hiking, and a great downtown. Wimberley is quieter with beautiful spring-fed swimming. Johnson City is best in wildflower season. Marble Falls for lake life. Boerne for proximity to San Antonio. Kerrville and Comfort for genuine quiet. Each serves a different mood and travel style.
When is the best time to visit the Texas Hill Country with a partner?+
Spring (March–April) for the bluebonnets and wildflowers — genuinely one of the most beautiful things in Texas. Fall (October–November) for cooler temperatures and wine harvest events in Fredericksburg. Summer is hot but the swimming holes make it worthwhile. Winter is uncrowded and mild, especially good for Fredericksburg's Christmas market season.
Do you offer couples therapy in Texas?+
Yes. I'm a licensed therapist (LPC) offering virtual couples therapy across Texas. Sessions are fully online, 50 minutes, private pay with no waitlist. I specialize in EFT-informed couples work and neurodiverse couples. Learn more on the Texas therapist page.
Is the Texas Hill Country worth a long drive?+
Yes, if you pick the right destination for what you want. Fredericksburg is worth the drive from almost anywhere in Texas. Wimberley is an easy day trip from Austin. For Dallas couples, Fredericksburg or Kerrville are the best anchors for a full weekend. The drive itself through the Hill Country — especially in spring — is part of the experience.
